Art and Identity : ''The Museum Of Modern Art''

For our first field trip to MOMA (Museum Of Modern Art) we were suppose to choose three works of art that embodies the topic identity of art. we were supposed to concentrate on two exhibitions: “Cindy Sherman” and “Contemporary Galleries: 1980-Now”. We must choose three works that represent; individual, cultural & historical art. Also we have to explain how does each work embody its classification of identity.

For my individual art I choose a work from Nan Goldin an American artist who embody his identity of art by the classification of indivial. He portrays a couple kissing also offers insight into the individual self-expression. Individual identity is what shows what makes you and what you like and what differ you from others.

Meanwhile, cultural identity can be expressed through certain styles of clothing or food. Many people can be identify their culture by location, gender, race, history, nationality, language, sexuality, religious, beliefs or ethnicity. United states where the population is ethnically diverse and social unity is based primarily on common social values and beliefs. For my cultural identity I choose the art of Marlene Dumas a South African artist who embodies the African culture standing against a wall.

Furthermore, some piece or an object from something that has pass years ago that from certain manner is important for some of us and our culture to create history can express historical identity. For history identity I choose an artwork from Doris Salcedo. Her work was inspired by the recent history of her native Columbia. Doris Salcedo creates sculptures that address the effects of war, political oppression, and other acts of violence. Her works tell harrowing tales of trauma and affliction.

Lastly, these identities can help us define our identity as a person and create a background. to do so we should be able to distinguish between members of our own. Being conscious of your identity also allows us to manipulate or to change how others perceive you. Awareness of our identity is important because it helps us make our way through the world. Also , distinguish our identity by culture , indivual & history.

''Good Art vs. Bad Art''

Good Art

good art for me is art that the artist can portray their thoughts in any particular type of art. art has a purpose, which is to interest the audience. all types of arts have an audience they can have different taste in art but they all have something in common. good art is art that achieves its purpose particularly well. that provoke the audience and cause a reaction that moves something inside us. also if an art is easy to understand and also help the spectator gain knowledge about other cultures and provide information that communicates something they didn't know. many types of good art are shown around the world in many museums for ex. METMUSEUM ( The Metropolitan Museum Of Art ) & MOMA ( Museum Of Modern Art ) . art can be express in so many ways.  below theres a few pictures that describes whats good art for me .

Bad Art

Bad art for me is art that cant represent an idea of what was the artist purpose or that has no quality and  clearly show that the artist didn't spent to much time creating his or her work or doesn't have the experience that a good artist has. bad art for me is art that doesn't contribute  any type of knowledge to the spectator or audience. bad art is an art that doesn't appear any provocative to the audience but a positive outcome from bad art is that can provoke shock in the audience. theres a museum that is dedicated to bad art that is called MOBA ( Museum Of Bad Art ) below theres a few pictures that shows what bad art is.
